iLuv HD Radio & Dual Alarm Clock - Black (I168)

It's the most significant advancement in radiobroadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast programs digitally - a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past. It delivers FM stations, now with CD-quality sound; AM stations, now with FM-quality sound; Crystal-clear reception with no audio distortion; new channels to play more of what you like to hear. There's no subscription fee! Reception is free if you have an HD Radio. ILUV I166 is an excellent clock radio that receives high-definition AM/FM radio. With HD-Radio, broadcasters can use the current radio spectrum to transmit free analog simultaneously with new higher quality digital signals. This eliminates the static, hiss, pops and fades associated with today's radio caused by conditions known as multipath, noise and interference. HD Digital Radio supports CD-quality sound as well as song titles and artist names. And because the digital signal piggybacks onto a conventional broadcast signal, it is free to the listener. We think you'll simply love this unique clock radio from iLuv. Programmable presets for 30 radio stations (10 for AM / 20 for FM) Digital dock and date display with dual alarm function Auxiliary line input for any audio devices with 3.5mm jack (i.e. your MP3 player) for play through radio Audio output - 3-Watt RMS x 2, 6-Watt RMS / 12-Watt Peak at 1% THD

User Reviews about iLuv HD Radio & Dual Alarm Clock - Black (I168)

A few weeks ago, I decided to take the plunge and get my first HD radio. I work in a lab, and listen to the radio most of the day. When I heard that our local public radio station had HD with FOUR separate programs(one of them being 24-hour news), I started reading the reviews of different models of HD radios. This one seemed to have some pretty good reviews, and its features seemed to give it a lot of "bang for the buck". With the exception of its VERY modest sound quality(my Tivoli Model 1 beats it, no contest), I'm fairly pleased with it. Easy to use, very good reception(even in my basement lab), small footprint. An internal FM antenna would have been nice, since it's a bit cumbersome when I move the radio to another room, having that long floppy external antenna. I like the ability to plug in a headset, although I haven't used this feature yet. Overall, I'm satisfied with it. -- Not a bad "first" HD radio
The station I wanted comes in great and the sound is really as good as my old Boise radio. However, it is a pain not to have the time shown in the display. Setting the time was reasonably easy. Also the sleep function. However, setting and using the alarms was very difficult due to poor instructions. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, it would be better to have the Power button on the end of the panel than having the tuning button for easy on and off especially in the dark. I am delighted with the tuner but feel that the instruction book was written by a non-English speaking person - and no one was ever asked to follow the instructions step by step as a trial to see if they were adequate. -- Great tuner for price but instructions difficult to follow
I had a regular radio in my kitchen that was not able to receive certain FM stations, no matter how I positioned the antenna, so I bought the iLuv with the hopes that an HD radio would be able to pull in these signals better.

For a kitchen radio, it does the job well: those stations I was having trouble with now come in clearly. I expected the sound quality of an HD radio to be much better, but it sounds about the same as an FM radio with a clear signal. However, this may be a function of the music station we listen to most often: it multiplexes multiple signals.

Also, it's got a relatively large footprint if you're looking for a small radio. -- Does the job
I bought this radio so I could listen to a local HD station. I could hardly believe the difference in sound from my old radio. It's terrific. -- Great Fidelity
