Great product while It worked. I bought this in 2007 and I came Into work today to find the device just at a black screen. The thing is shot, it just won't turn on anymore. I did some basic troubleshooting and of course it's out of warrenty so there is nothing I can do. So enjoy this while it works but seems to me that the power supply inside burnt out or something -- Good while it works...

There are lots of reviews out there about this product - here is mine. Will try to brief and to the point

What all can it do ?
++ Can play movies stored on a flash drive/SD memory

++ Can play music (mp3/avi)

++ Picture frame - can be a good picture frame, nothing fancy, medium display resolution

++ A FM radio : with 20 preset memories, excellent quality, but will need an antenna

++ Clock & 2 alarms ; Display current time and you can set 2 alarms in the clock

Where does it screw up ?
-- Does not have battery backup - if you lose power, or unplug from one point and keep it at a different place, you have to redo all your settings again
-- You cannot wake up to your favorite music : alarm sounds are set to a few preloaded sounds
-- Adjusting the presets is a bit of a pain
-- If you turn on the clock, it displays your favorite picture, but it does not change/scroll the pictures like an album - it is static
-- No feature to browse through directories in a flash drive (kind of dumb isnt it)

Awesome stuff:
++ Supports both USB flash drive as well as a SD memory card
++ Display quality is excellent
++ Radio & sound quality is excellent - top notch
++ You can pause, rewind and fast forward videos at 2x, 4x, 8x speeds

Additional information:
(1) I have a DVD/Blu Ray, how do I play this on this unit ? Google for 'dvd to divx converter' and pick up a software - it is worth paying a few dollars for a decent conversion software, try to look in the [...] site or a good conversion software. Once you have that software, it is a matter of popping your dvd/blu ray into your computer, converting to divx, storing on your flash drive/SD memory and plugging it into the Philips AJL 308

(2) What is the maximum size of the flash drive/SD memory it supports ?
Tried up to 4 GB and it works

(3) Is it worth the price ?
At nearly hundred bucks - it is too expensive - I bought a refurbished one from amazon marketplace/ebay for $37 and it is working pretty well

(4) Any alternative product ?
Unfortunately, the clones of this product are even worse. Still waiting for that ideal product - why dont they listen to us ?

(5) Do they release firmware updates ?
Yes they do, google for ajl308 firmware and you should be able to update the firmware. BTW, what is firmware ? Firmware is kind of software or a program that runs inside these devices. Manufacturers often release updated versions of the firmware free of cost - for almost all devices - mobile phones, TVs, dvd players. So it is a good practise to keep your firmware updated on all your devices to keep it running trouble free -- Read this before you buy ....
